Interruptions to Wellness - restoring balance

A healthy immune system will naturally combat viral and bacterial infections, but there are 4 common occurrences that can disrupt the immune system.

Keeping the “solution” on hand and using it at the first symptom can be your first line of defense!

Common cold:  the rhinovirus is prevalent and takes advantage of us when we are slightly run down.  At the first sign of a tickle in the throat or sniffle in the nose, a non-invasive way to support the immune system and slough off the virus is using a product called Zicam (or similar).  It is an over the counter zinc product and comes in several forms, but the easiest and most effective is the spray.  Used as directed AT THE FIRST symptom can reduce a cold’s grip from 10 days down to 4 and decrease symptoms significantly.  Another effective measure (and something that can be done daily as a preventative, also good for nasal allergies) is using a Neti pot as directed. The saline solution flushes out irritations and keeps the nasal passages healthy.  Good for sinus problems and allergies, too!

Flu: for the whole body virus that causes achiness, malaise, sometimes fever, Oscillococcinum is an over the counter homeopathic remedy that, if taken at the first symptoms, can shorten the span of the viral outbreak and greatly alleviate symptoms.  Rest and liquids, perhaps some aspirin can also help.

Candida: yeast lives naturally in our bodies – but an overgrowth of candida yeast can cause MANY health problems!

Symptoms include rash, itching (on skin, scalp, inside the mouth, the anus), cravings (especially for sugar), ache-y joints, weak immune system (prone to illness) and a host of other more serious symptoms.  If you suspect a candida infection, please email me.

Urinary Tract Infection: some women are prone to recurring urinary tract infections (UTI).  Severe conditions are best treated medically with appropriate antibiotics, however, there are some preventive and restorative measures that can be done on a regular basis:  drinking water throughout the day is helpful to keep the kidneys and bladder flushed of bacteria, and adding pure cranberry juice (not the sugared juice, but the extract) to the water can help.  Cranberry can also be taken in tablet form.  D-mannose is an effective solution to flushing the unwanted bacteria from the urinary tract.  An excellent brand is Vibrant Health.  Their UT Vibrance tablets or powder include ingredients in addition to d-mannose that are effective against UTI.  Keep some on hand and use as directed at the first symptom of UTI.
